The Paper Stratagraphic
Since the early 1980′s, I’ve made stratagraphics out of rag paper board. I begin with visualization and sketching to organize relationships of all aspects of design. I achieve exact organization of layers by relating every line (cut edge) to precise measurement, meticulously laying out each layer in calculated relationship to every other layer. All the cutting is done by hand and pigments are brushed on, one layer at a time, before carefully assembling each layer upon the other with adhesive. Simple hand tools used are: compass, straight edge, measuring rule, pencil, and mat knives.
